"Evgeny Onegin" and "Dream of Red Mansions" are respectively outstanding literary works of Russia in the early 19 th century and of China in the middle age of the 18 th century.In the history of literature,both works bear the reputation of social "encyclopedia." From different perspectives,the two works have extensively reflected the social environment at that time.The authors of the two books praised,criticized and reflected typical phenomena in the society through the characters in the works.The author's own values and aesthetics are revealed as well by these different attitudes and emotions,This article is to compare different social and cultural connotations behind these two major works by comparing the main characters of the two works.Through the influence of these cultural factors on human nature,we will explore the beauty,ugliness,goodness,evil,rightness and wrongness that they exhibit.The full text is divided into two parts.The first major part is mainly to compare Onegin in "Evgeny Onegin" and Jia Baoyu in "Dream of Red Mansions." The reasons of the formation of their typical character are summarized by analyzing their family environment and cultural qualities.Meanwhile,from the certain consistency shown in their character,the author of the paper explores some common features in the laws of human cultural development.The second major part is mainly to compare Dageana in "Evgeny Onegin" and Lin Daiyu and Xue Baochai in the Dream of Red Mansions.From their emotions,virtues and experiences,the author summed up some of the common elements that women have in different cultures.At last,the author further researches the aesthetic ideals that the two writers placed on these female images.
