Subtitle Translation Of The Film Mr.Six From The Perspective Of Relevance Translation Theory

In recent years,Chinese films have become more and more popular all over the world,which contributes to the cultural exchange between China and foreign countries.Therefore,subtitle translation becomes more important than before,which can affect the audience's appreciation of Chinese films,or may even change their attitude towards Chinese industry or culture.This thesis is about a study on subtitle translation of the film Mr.Six from the perspective of relevance translation theory.The study is aimed at making the English audience appreciate the films well firstly.Besides,it is beneficial to the English teaching and learning.Moreover,some references can be provided for scholars in the future study.There are mainly two methods applied in this study: descriptive study and case study method.Both of the methods are applied in this thesis to mainly illustrate how the film subtitle translation is achieved successfully from the perspective of relevance translation theory as well as some approaches analyzed in subtitle translation study.Based on relevance translation theory,the application of several main translation approaches is analyzed to achieve the ostension,optimal relevance and interpretation of the translated subtitles.The approaches mainly include amplification,omission,domestication,substitution and paraphrasing.Through this analysis,these approaches can be applied to the film subtitle translation better.To some extent,the quality of the translated subtitles can also be improved.
