This is an English-Chinese translation report on No Hero— The Evolution of a Navy SEAL co-authored by the former Navy SEAL Matt Bissonnette and American journalist Kevin Maurer. As a military autobiography,No Hero—The Evolution of a Navy SEAL is an episodic account which features plain language and fascinating plots, and offers readers a personal insight into author's growth process of being a brave warrior. The translator selected two chapters(the Prologue to Chapter One)of the novel as the translation practice and focused mainly on the translation of the military terms appearing in the source text,in order to properly reproduce the military value and readability of the source text. This report begins with a general description of the translation task, including its background, significance and objectives, and then gives an introduction to both the author and the source text,in order to provide readers a relatively comprehensive grasp of the translation report. In the process of translating, the translator encountered some translation difficulties at different levels in the source text without ready-made experience for reference.Under this circumstance, the translator attached great importance to the flexible application of translation methods, and resorted to several of them with specific case analysis, namely, foreignization, domestication, annotation, combination, amplification, conversion of parts of speech, putting parentheses into the round brackets, applying four-character phrases and rhetoric devices.By which, the translator has accomplished the goals of achieving conceptual equivalence, avoiding translationese and conveying vividness of the language of the source text accordingly.Through this report, the translator aims to reproduce the style and favor of the original text as faithfully as possible,so that the target reader can get the same reading experience as the source reader does.Besides, the translator also expects to provide a more practical reference for the same type of translation.
