As a branch of English for science and technology, architecture English has somefeatures which are different from other types of text. In this practice report, the authorselected some excerpts from the book Landscape Architecture as an original text andanalyzed its linguistic features, such as strong specialty, frequent nominalization andfew simple sentences. According to the text types and purposes of these materials, theauthor employs some methods and strategies in the translation. Besides, the authorelaborates the preparation work she did and the difficult problems she encounteredwhile translating. Those difficult problems include the translation of technical terms,and the processing of long and difficult sentences and so on. However, the biggestfactor which reduces the quality of translation is translationese. The author explainsseparately in detail on what is translationese and what negative effects willtranslationese bring about. In order to make a further understanding of this problemand figure out methods to avoid it, the author makes a detailed analysis of typicalsentences from the translated texts under the guidance of Yanfu’s translating criteria,which is faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance. Through abundant examples,thisthesis concludes that the most suitable translation method to the equivalence betweenthe source texts and the translated texts is literal translation, which can well convey thecontents of the source text while maintaining its stylistic style. However, the problemof translationese always occurs when the method of literal translation is used. In orderto make it more readable and easier to be accepted by the readers, the author shouldadopt different methods within different situations, such as the conversion of wordclasses, supplementation, omission and structural adjustment, so as to reducetranslationese to the least extent and increase the readability of the translated text. Inthis report, the author also points out her gains from her translating practice and itsinadequacies.This report focuses on the problem of translationese, in which the authorgeneralizes some methods to avoid translationese after analyzing some typicalsentences. The author also put forward two suggestions on the translation ofnon-literary, hoping to develop a certain reference and guidance for other translatorswhen translating this kind of text.
