The report is English to Chinese translation report.The source text is The Tiger Queens: the Women of Genghis khan written by Stephanie Thornton who is an American writer.This book is a historical novel featured by the Mongolian nationality and recreates some real historical women,mainly including the wife of Genghis Khan“Borte”,the daughter of Genghis Khan “Alaqai” and a Tajik or Persian captive called Fatima.During the whole process of translating,there are two difficulties,namely the depiction of characters and cultural-specific elements.A novel includes three major factors,namely characters,a complete plot of story and environments.What's more,it is the core to create successful figures.By understanding the figures well,the translation can keep the original style of characters.The thesis adopts six methods to translate figure's appearances,actions,languages and psychological actions,including free translation,amplification,adjusting the structure and order of sentences,conversion of part of speech,and transformation between passive and active voices as well as replacement.In light of cultural elements,the thesis adopts transliteration and annotation and strives to use conventional translation or translates under the guidance of historical materials.This report provides the detail translation methods for characters' depiction and also provides corpus for the research of the Mongolia history.Meanwhile,the report points out the shortcomings and defects,which is helpful for a future translation career.
