A Practice Report On E-C Translation Of When Women Ruled The World: Six Queens Of The Egypt (Chapters 1-2)

The translation text is an excerpt from a book called When Women Ruled The World:Six Queens of the Egypt.And this English-Chinese translation practice report is written based on the Introduction,Chapter One and Chapter Two of the book.In the introduction,the author makes a short summary about the six ancient female kings discussed in the book,and evaluates their rules respectively.Particularly,an analysis of the unfavorable environment of women in high political positions and that of men of the same status is made by the author,attempting to help the readers learn something from those great women.In the historical order,detailed introduction about the two important female kings of the ancient Egyptian royal family is made in sequence in chapter one and chapter two.There are five chapters in the translation practice report.Chapter one is the description of the translation task,including the introduction about the background and significance,the text type,the structure,and the analysis of the source text in terms of its linguistic features.Chapter two is the description of the translation process.It mainly discusses the preparatory work before translation,the selection of the translation strategy,the tool used in the translation,and the ways to improve the translation quality.Chapter three is the introduction and analysis about the thesis`s framework in detail under the guidance of the translation theory of Comprehension,Expression and Adaption proposed by Professor Li Changshuan.Chapter four is the case study under the guidance of translation theory,including vocabulary,sentence,text and culture.Chapter five is a summary of the translation practice report.In this chapter,the translator makes a reflection and self-criticism,rethinking the disadvantages and deficiencies.The characteristic of the translation practice of the source text is realistic.The content of the source text is exotic and fantastic for the great number of foreign namesof people and cities,traditional customs,myths and legends,and cultural symbols.During the process of analysis,transformation,comprehension and expression of the language and the source text`s structure,the problem of inaccurate translation caused by insufficient reserve of background knowledge occurred.On such issues,the translator tries to solve them by combining specific translation strategies and translation skills step by step,hoping to express the meaning of the source text accurately and bring the target language readers a readable and artistic translation.Through this translation practice,the translator learned that before starting a translation task,it is useful for the translator to analyze the source text`s language style and stylistic features carefully and make a concrete analysis of a concrete problem.Also,a suitable translation theory is helpful to clear thinking.In addition,the translator should hold a rigorous and responsible attitude and take every translation practice seriously.
