The Study Of Liu Dashen's Essays

Liu Dashen,who was an official in the counties of Shangdong Province in his early years,was honest and upright with the good reputation of “Liu Qingtian”.When he returned to Yunnan province after his resignation,Liu Dashen held the post of principle of Wuhua Academy and had cultivated many excellent students represented by the Five Poets of Wuhua.As an outstanding poet,scholar and educator in Yunnan during the middle of the Qing dynasty,his poets,essays and educational ideology had exerted tremendous impact at that time.This paper consists of the following four chapters.Chapter One elaborates Liu Dashen's political achievements in Shangdong as well as his contribution to education of Wuhua Academy.Chapter Two introduces his friends during his travelling in the nature of mountains and rivers,which is divided into Shandong period and Yunnan period respectively.Chapter Three is the main body of this paper.It expounds Liu Dashen's ancient articles covering travel notes,preface and postscript,epistolary essays and argumentative essays.This chapter first narrates the fundamental characteristics of literary genre,and then analyzes the texts of Liu Dashen's ancient articles.Chapter Four illustrates the writing characteristics,artistic characteristic,value and influence of Liu Dashen's ancient articles.Chapter Five summarizes Liu Dashen's honesty in work,dedication to education,preciseness for scholarship and research value of his ancient articles.
