| With the development of video camera technology and the change of people's concept of documentary,the role of video camera has undergone tremendous changes.Beginning in the 1960 s,people gradually realized that there was no absolute truth under the camera.Therefore,a group of documentary producers represented by Michael Moore began to use video cameras as a weapon to expose social reality,express personal political inclination and even try to solve social problems.In their opinion,the camera shooting is not only the restoration of the world,the filming process can also complete acts,such as demonstrations and harassment.According to speech act theory from John Austin,the documentary can also have performative effect.In performative documentary,the filming process no longer just describe the world,but can change the reality.As an action,shooting has great influence on people's behavior and the meaning of events.Therefore,this paper hopes to use Michael Moore documentary as an example to discuss the form and characteristics of performative documentary.The first chapter introduces the research background,the methods and the existing research on Michael Moore.there are few research results on Moore's documentary that use performative theory.Therefore,in the second chapter,I will introduce Michael Moore,summarize the scholars' positioning of his documentaries and find the research loopholes,then explain how performative play important role in his documentary.In the third chapter,I will talk about the theory of performative documentary by Bill Nichols and Stella Bruzzi from the view of speech acts theory.In the fourth chapter,I will take Michael Moore documentary as an example to analyze the characteristics of performative documentary,summarize the rules and effects.In the fifth chapter,I will try to elaborate the performative morals contained in Michael Moore's documentary.In my opinion,performative plays the most important role in his documentary that makes his film incomparable. |
