Study On The Style Of Michael Moore's Documentary

Michael Moore is one of the world's most famous documentary filmmaker,his works "Fahrenheit 9/11" and "Bowling for Columbine" have respectively won the golden palm award in the 57 th Cannes international film festival in the main competition unit and the Best Documentary Feature award in the 75 th Oscar Academy Awards.His work " Fahrenheit 9 · 11" has created the history of documentary films in box office.Until now it is still the documentary with the highest box office around the world.First of all,the work style of Michael Moore is edgy,bold,sharp and pungent.Regarding the topic selection,it is brave enough to criticize social problems and fight against social injustice.He focuses his lens on the plight of the vulnerable groups,which reveals a strong humanistic care.Michael Moore's works mainly reflect social hot issues.On the basis of reflecting and criticizing problems,he guides the public to reflect,which can promote social innovation and progress to a certain extent.Our country now is in the crucial period of reforming and opening up,studying and drawing lessons from the work styles of Michael Moore will help with the in-depth excavation of social values of documentaries in the documentary industry of China and promote social progress in our country.Second,Michael Moore's works have a strong personal style.Studying the styles of his works has got strong enlightenment function to the diversified development of documentary creation techniques of our country.Third,Michael Moore's works has achieved a great success in the art and commerce.Currently,it is the great time for the implementation of the cultural industry revitalization policies,researching on Michael Moore's documentary style will contribute to the revitalization and development of documentary film industry in China.In the study of Michael Moore's work style,I use the literature analysis and case study method.Through the study of a large number of literatures,I not only understand lots of professional theory knowledge,increase the depth of theories,expand my vision in professional field,increase the width of theories.By adopting the case study method,I carry out thorough and careful research on Michael Moore's works separately,provide examples to support the paper,and also put forward methods for the studying and reference making of Michael Moore's documentary style.This paper emphatically carries out researches on Michael Moore's writing style,creation concept,image style and the rational thoughts brought by them.In this paper,I conduct the discussion from 4 perspectives including the formation process of Michael Moore's documentary style,creation concept of his documentary works,theimage style of the works and the rational thoughts on these styles.In the first chapter,it introduces Michael Moore's growing experience and working experience and the influences on his works style brought by these experiences.And according to the depth of the thematic depth of the documentary,Michael Moore's documentary creation is divided into three stages.The second chapter analyzes the adoption of the features of participatory and self-reflection type of documentaries in the works of Michael Moore.It points out that Michael Moore has used story type narrative style in documentary production and integrated the creation concept of postmodernism.The third chapter analyzes the image style of Michael Moore's works style from editing skills,unique use of music,diversified expression and poster design style.In the fourth chapter,it discusses and analyzes the dialectical relationships between "authenticity and non-authenticity","objective material and subjective editing" and "entertainment and rigorous" in Michael Moore's works.Based on analysis of the four perspectives,this paper strives to carry out a comprehensive and in-depth research on Michael Moore's documentary style.In the last chapter,I explain the creation of my graduation work “Star from the Village” and analyze the reference making and adoption of Michael Moore's documentary style from the perspectives of the creative process and creation concept.The purpose of this paper is to analyze and study the style of Michael Moore's works from a comprehensive,careful and innovative perspective.As a student of documentary major,the process of researching on the work style of Michael Moore is also a valuable experience for my major study.
