Investigation On The International Students' Chinese Names

In recent years,with the promotion of China's international status and the enhancement of its cultural strength,increasingly more number of international students choose to come to study in China.A Chinese name plays a very important role in facilitating the study of Chinese languange and culture,adapting to the life of studying in China,and helping the school management.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the Chinese names of international students.This paper studied the Chinese names of international students from Hebei University,A number of 165 Chinese names were collected with a self-designed questionnaire,and analyzed from three respects: rthe relationship between international students' Chinese names and their birth names,the characters chosen as the names and cultural connotation of the names,the characteristics of international students' Chinese names.The attitudes of international students toward their Chinese names are also explored.Results showed that: Students prefered to choose the names in accordance with the Chinese culture or those with similar pronunciation to their birth names;Students' Chinese names reflected to some degree the Chinese culture.Most international students often use their Chinese names and believe that Chinese names have a positive effect on their study abroad.At the end of the paper,some suggestions were given for international students to adopt Chinese names.
