English poses a salient role in the development of economy and society in today's world and gradually becomes a Lingua Franca.English speakers from China take over a large number in the whole number of English speakers,and the number of NNESs speaking with NNESs and NESs with NNESs is growing quickly.Accompanying with learners' learning on Standard English.English is presented by various other varieties,for example,Chinese English.Chinese English frequently appears in the interactions between Chinese people and foreigners.It is an English variety interfered by Chinese thinking path while transmitting to Standard English,named interlanguage.This thesis mainly aims to research the attitudes of international students in China to some typical Chinese English items under the guidance of Attitude Theory.And then according to the results found in the questionnaires and interviews,qualitative and quantitative analysis has been proceeded.In the research process,155 international students in China contributed their answers to the questionnaire and 13 of them to the interview.As for these participants,they are mainly from North China Electric Power University,and some are from Beijing Language and Culture University and Communication University of China and other universities.Besides,several English teachers in North China Electric Power University also took part in the interview part.Results found from the questionnaire displayed that participants from the inner circle,outer circle and the expanding circle which was categorized by Kachru(1985)held generally slight positive attitudes to Chinese English.From participants' comments on Chinese English items,they showed their struggles between the choices of approximation to Standard English and the orientation to the function of Chinese English.The interview also disclosed their struggles of choosing the form of English or the function of English.This struggle was influenced by their life experiences from social norms and rules,personal experiences and learning which are the essential factors determining the composition of an individual's attitudes.They had learned the significance of language functions which truly exert important effects in the courses of communication particularly.However,their worships to Standard English still show their preferences to the Standard English,which infers their beliefs of Standard English's dominance in the society.But the preference of ENL belongs to just one part of the participants.What's more,some English teachers in North China Electric Power University pointed out in the interview that the forms and functions of English take the same weight in the language teaching,deserving constantly reinforcement and enhancement.Through this research,several suggestions have been demonstrated to English language teaching in China in the conclusion part:(1)pattern drill practice teaching method should be reinforced in the acquisition of basic English language learning to improve students' English ability not only in word usages but also in sentence composition;(2)English immersion class should be encouraged and advocated to have students get more chances to get in touch with English thinking path and to accelerate students to use English more conformed with the standard norms;(3)More pronunciation teaching and pronunciation amendments are required for students during English teaching,instead of pursuing the native-like accent teaching;(4)Students' recognition of other English varieties should be expanded and enhanced by reexamining them in English teaching process because of the growing functions of English varieties.
