Medicinal chemistry is a discipline combining chemistry, pharmacology and biology, with its focus on the mechanisms and funcioning patterns of drugs in vivo.Medicinal chemistry plays a major part in the research and development of new medicines, making significant conributions to human health, and therefore, medicinal chemistry is considered to be one of the most promising fields in high and new technologies. The translation of medicinal chemistry texts is of great importance in introducing the advantaged technologies from foreign countries so as to promote the develpopment of related industries. The study of translation quality assessment(TQA)was started in the 1970s.Juliane House, the renowned German translator,is one of the earliest scholars, who made a systematic study of the TQA model. The TQA model was formed on the basis of Halliday's theories of systemic functional linguistics and discourse analysis.Bearing strong systematic and scientific characteristics, the model possesses a complete system of parameters, and hence it is regarded as the first TQA model bearing systematic theories in international translation criticism circles and can be well applied to the translation practice. The report has selected two medicinal chemistry articles of 15,000 words as its research documents based on specific translation projects participated by the author of the report.By using Juliane House's translation quality assessment model as its theoretical guidance, the report intends to improve the quality of the translation version of medicinal chemistry texts by way of exemplification. This report mainly covers three aspects:First,it introduces the background and significance of this project as well as the preparations made before translation.Next,it expounds the framework of Juliane House's TQA model, and explicates the three primary translation assessment standards:register, genre, and textual function. Finally,by combining J.House's translation model with practice,it analyzes and assesses the translation quality of medicinal chemistry texts on the three dimensions of register, genre, and textual function, and offers some related revision strategies. It is indicated in the report that Juliane House's TQA model is of great directive significance and is able to offer feasible guidance for the translation of medicinal chemistry texts. In the translation process of medicinal chemistry texts,a translator is required to evaluate and consider such dimensions as register, genre and textual function.Only in this way can the related strategies and techniques reflecting the three elements be employed to enhance the translation quality.
