This report, based on the English-Chinese translation project-White Paper on Block Chain Related Projects, analyzes the characteristics of the project and summarizes the translation under the guidance of Eugene Nida's Functional Equivalence. In the process of translating, the translator analysed the lexical features of the source text and adopted the right translation strategies. The first task is the translation of the professional terms. In recent years, new words are employed in the field of fintech. If a translator fails to grasp the right meaning of these words, his translation will result in a failure and lead to misunderstandings. The other task is to deal with the conversion of words.Verb nominalization and adverb adjectival conversion are employed much in the source text. The translator dealt with the problem and made needed transformation based on the rules of target languages.Secondly, the translator studied the syntactic features of the source text and used the proper translation strategies. One focus is the different orders of words, phrases or clauses in English and Chinese. If it is needed, the translator adjusts the order according to the features of the both languages. If the target language is consistent with the chronological or logical order of the source language, conversion is not needed;and if the target language is different from that of the source language, the translator, based on the functional equivalence theory, has to give a right position to the words or phrases according to the target language grammar. The second focus is about division or combination.Words, phrases, and even clauses in the source text could be possibly translated into a new grammatical unit in the target language.Sometimes two or more simple sentences in the original text, the main-subordinate complex sentence or the compound complex sentence are probably translated into a single grammatical unit in the target language. The third focus is about amplification or omission.Sometimes literal translation may lose some meanings or flavor of the source text.In this case, amplification is necessary. On the other hand, with no loss of the original meaning, omission is unavoidable when unnecessary repetition destroys the effect of the version. Thus, the version could be clearer.Under the guidance of the theory of functional equivalence, therefore, the translator enumerates some typical examples in her translation based on an analysis of the lexical and syntactic features of the source text. This report summarizes the linguistic features and translation strategies of fintech white papers to provide reference for the translation in thisfield.
