Study On The Objects Which Introduced By France And Its Influence In Kangxi Period Of Qing Dynasty

After the opening of the New Sea-route in 16^th century,a large number of European missionaries came to the East.In 1687,Louis XIV,the French monarch,sent a mission made up of missionaries to China to achieve the dual purpose of developing the force in the Far East and domestic science.The Emperor Kangxi put them in important positions.Since then,a large number of French missionaries and businessmen had come to China and formed a climax of large-scale cultural exchange in the history of China and France.Western objects played a significant role during the cultural exchange,therefore a research of that is quite essential.This paper is based on previous studies and attempts to research the types,contents,uses and historical influence of the objects introduced by France in Kangxi Period of Qing Dynasty.The main part of the thesis is divided into three chapters.The first chapter is about the historical background of the French objects'introduced in Kangxi Period of Qing Dynasty.This part analyses the politics,the economic status and the ruler's cultural policies of the two countries which is closely related to the introduction of the French objects,then explains the missionaries'development and their motivations to enter China.The second chapter is about the French objects introduced in Kangxi Period of Qing Dynasty,which consists of three main categories,that is science,art and daily necessities,and then introduces each kind of objects'contents,application,uses,spread range and effect.The last chapter is about the influence and lessons of the introduction of the French objects.The western objects promoted the progress of science and technology in China,and the Chinese culture was also introduced to the west and played a significant role in the social development of France.In the comparison of the difference of the two countries,this part analyses the reasons and its enlightenment to today's society.
