There are increasing contradictions between globalization and native cultural identity.Chinese culture is facing the identity crisis,which has caught attention of many scholars.Western culture has impacts on college students' attitude to Chinese customs,language and values.College students' native cultural identity in such a globalization environment has become a hot topic of cross–cultural study and attracted study interests of many scholars.This paper adopts theoretical analysis along with questionnaire to research on English major students' native cultural identity.The questionnaire is designed according to cultural identity theories and 150 English major students participated in the investigation.Then SPSS software is used to analyze the data.The results have revealed that there are some defects in English major college students' native cultural identity.By analyzing the causes of these defects,we find out some countermeasures to these defects.There are some conclusions that can be drawn according to the data analysis.College students have identification defects with facial-layered culture,such as movies and music.While their identification with our deep native culture is strong,which means that college students can be influenced by the western culture input only in the surface level of culture.Although English major college students have a high degree of identification with our core native culture,we still face the danger of progressive threats of western culture.The defects existed in English major college students' native cultural identity can be improved by adding some native cultural elements to college courses and cultural comparison in the college English education.
