As the most developed country in the world,the United States has made remarkable achievements in the field of education,especially in the area of English teaching,which has its unique representation and superiority.The language teaching in the United States focuses on the language productive ability of the students.Teachers are encouraged to motivate students' participation by using group discussion and work to strengthen the understanding and language skills.English assignments are interesting so that students' learning is much more joyful.However,it does not mean the quantity of assignments is relatively few,as the fact is that students tend to complete.To its counterpart,assignments in China have always been regarded as a heavy burden in schooling,which even has raised concerns of the ministry of Education.And then,the opposite phenomenon leads to the research questions.The main purpose of this study is to use the theoretical framework of constructivism,humanism,and homework evaluation to explore the teaching concepts behind assignments in case school through text analysis,case analysis,and survey research.And further explains the interactive relationship between English assignments and teaching concepts.Last,the author draws the implications of the American English assignments for design of English assignments in China.In the end,the author proposes constructive suggestions on how to promote the reform of English assignments in Chinese contexts.This thesis consists of five chapters.The first chapter is introductory part mainly introduces the background of the research,states and analyzes the current situation of homework in American English.The second chapter of the literature review section is mainly related to assignments related research and literature review.The methods and steps in the third chapter of the study specify the main research methods that this paper will adopt.The fourth chapter is the main part of the thesis.It is a case study and interview analysis of the case study of English assignments in the case school.In the conclusion of the fifth chapter,the author summarizes the thesis and points out the limitations of this study and the direction of further research.
