A Study On The Construction Of Leo Ou-fan's Shanghai Modern To Modernity Of Shanghai

Leo Ou-fan's monograph on the modernity of Shanghai,Shanghai Modern-kind of new urban culture in China has led an imagination and reconstruction to the culture of Shanghai in the thirties of 20~thh century.First he redraws the old urban space of Shanghai,and that's the basis of developing Chinese modernity.Then he illustrates the complex relation between city and the culture of city through the analysis of the urban literature.In the last he thinks about the development of Shanghai urban culture and modernity in the theoretical level.On the whole,the monograph shows the historical and culture appearance of old Shanghai to the readers with modernity as the guide through redrawing the background of Shanghai urban culture and analyzing the literature text.The depiction of urban material environment,the intertextuality of landscape of urban and literature,and the modernity found by Leo ou-fan has a deep influence on academic circles at home and abroad,promoting the prosperity of Shanghai writing till today.This paper can be divided into three chapters except the introduction and conclusion part.The first chapter teases out the academic route of Leo Ou-fan's research on the modernity of Shanghai,and concludes his deductive process of studying modernity through analyzing the logic connection among the three parts of Shanghai Modern.And then it introduces and accesses the urban landscape depicted by Leo ou-fan and the culture sensibility within.The second chapter mainly explores the process of literature modernity in Shanghai,selects three writers studied by Leo Ou-fan,analyzes the writers'state of life,characters shaped in literary works and different region of urban space,and points out his rational thinking on urban culture.The third chapter is a reflection to Shanghai modernity found by Leo Ou-fan.It mainly analyzes the disappeared critic in literary works,China's world view he comes up with,the relation between Shanghai and Hong Kong,and the unfinished modernity.In the conclusion part,the paper selects several proposition to debate,according to the enormous response caused by Shanghai Modern in the academic world at home and abroad.
