When women faced the stress of social culture with thinness as beauty,it was easily leaded to women's negative evaluation of their body type.Body dissatisfaction has become a serious problem of women's physical and mental health.Previous research showed that body dissatisfaction were associated with psychological problems,such as depression,anxiety,diet,substance abuse,and even suicide.With the development of Positive Psychology,the study of body images began to shift from negative body image to positive body image.Researcher advocated measures to promote the individual's positive body image.Positive body image was defined as body appreciation,which refers to a foundation of love,respect,appreciation,and acceptance of the appearance and functionality of one's body.It also protected them from idealized media information.Research demonstrated that body appreciation correlates with a broad range of positive well-being indices of women.In recent years,studies have shown that body appreciation mitigate the negative effects of media exposure.It is important to explore the alleviating effect of body appreciation on women's body dissatisfaction for women's psychological and physical health.It found that the lack of previous research:First,research on women's body appreciation is more focused on Western cultural backgrounds,and less on women's body appreciation under Chinese background culture.Studies have shown that body appreciation alleviate the negative effects caused by appearance media,but these empirical studies are mainly concentrated in the western test group.Whether the finding was culturally universal remains to be seen in the context of Chinese culture.Second,body appreciation alleviate the negative influence of mass media,but there is no research to discuss the reasons.Third,according to "HBI model"(Wood-Barcalow et al.,2010),the alleviating effect of body appreciation may be related to their attention to mass media information.Individuals with low body appreciation were more concerned with this type of information while focusing on mass media information,they were more vulnerable.At present,no research conducted to discuss this inference.In addition,the model was a theoretical model,and there was no empirical research.Study 1 was designed to examine the characteristics of body appreciation of Chinese women,and explore the relationship between body appreciation and body image variables(body satisfaction,ideal body internalization).It was found that only a small percentage(33.22%)of women could always appreciate their own bodies;there was a significant positive correlation between body appreciation and body satisfaction,and significant negative correlation with ideal internalization.Study 2 explored the effects of media exposure on females with different levels of body appreciation.As a result,it was found that the interaction between the media before and after exposure was marginally significant with F(2,84)=4.21,p=0.018,?P2 =0.09.The simple effect analysis showed that the satisfaction of the high BA group and medium BA group did not change after the exposure of the media image,while the low BA group participants showed a significant decrease in body satisfaction after exposure of the media image F(2,84)=8.5,p=0.005,?P2=0.09?Study 3 and Study 4 selected different materials,the preference characteristics of high-and low-body appreciation women for mass media information were examine.Study 3 found that there was no overall attention was paid to the thin word in high BA group t(29)=0.40,p=0.688,while low group paeyd attention to thin word t(31)= 3.50,p = 0.01.and difference between the two was significant t(60)=-2.23,p = 0.029,d = 0.57 in Gaze Duration Bias.In Gaze Count Bias,there is no overall attention to thin word in high group t(29)= 1.23,p = 205,attention to thin vocabulary in general to maintain low t(31)= 2.98,p = 0.06,no significant difference between group t(60)=1.29,p = 0.203,d = 0.33.Both groups did not detect the occurrence of thin vocabulary bias and initial attention maintenance;In behavioral data did not show attentional facilitate to thin words and difficulty in attentional disengagement.Section results of study 3 validated hypothesis.The results of the 4 eye movement data showed that there was no overall attention to the model pictures t(29)=1.33,p=0.191.The low grouping showed overall attention to the model pictures t(31)= 5.12,p =0.001,there was significantly difference between high and low group t(60)=-2.01,p = 0.048,d =0.60 in Gaze Duration Bias.In Gaze Count Bias,there is no overall attention to the model pictures for high group t(29)=1.45,p=0.159.Low group women payed attention to the model picture t(31)=6.4,p=0.001,Two groups was significant t(60)=-2.89,p=0.05,d=0.78.In First Fixation Duration Bias,and the body-appreciating high group had no orientation bias towards the model picture t(29)=-1.33,p=0.194.there was an orientation bias on the model picture in low group t(31)=2.64,p=0.013.Significant t(60)=-2.76,p = 0.06,d = 0.70.No two groups showed detection bias and initial attention maintenance on model pictures.In behavioral data did not show attentional facilitate to thin words and difficulty in attentional disengagement.Section results of study 4 validated hypothesis.The results of study 3 and study 4 showed that high-group payed less attention to mass media information than low-group.In view of the above four studies,the following conclusions were drawn:(1)There is a general phenomenon of thin ideal in Chinese women,and only a few of women appreciated their body appearance.(2)Body appreciation relieves women's body dissatisfaction by media exposure.Media exposure has different effects on women with different levels of body appreciation.After watching a model picture.Body satisfaction of the participants with low body appreciation was reduced,while the high and medium level of participants did not report a decrease in body satisfaction.(3)There were different attention bias for mass media(thin body vocabulary and model pictures)in high-group and low-group(body appreciation),ie,high-group has no selective attention to mass media,but low-group had a preference for mass media information;high-group payed less attention to mass media information than low-group.
