Ai Xuan is one of the inventors of Beijing realistic school of painting, and a painter of great personality and achievement. He tells great stories with his brushes, describing loneliness and beauty of Tibet with his original style of art, which leads him to his own path of creating of art.The Art Newspaper, one of American authoritative art publications, gives Ai Xuan a high appraisa, terming him the rising star.Born in war time, raised in the time of the Great Cultural Revolution, influenced by the reform and opening-up policy of China,Ai Xuan developed his own style of creating instead of following the traditional model. He studied the painting skills and ideology of Andrew Wyeth. Then he searched his deepest request of his mind and he found it in creating oil painting of Tibetan subject which he made great achievement. The aim of this paper is to study Ai Xuan's oil painting of Tibetan subject systematically with five chapters. The first part mainly portrays Ai Xuan's artistic developing path, based on Ai Xuan's growing environment and creating experiences. The second chapter researches Ai Xuan's painting style by studying characteristics of his creation, color using, composition and poetically combining title of his painting. The third chapter analyses the causes of Ai Xuan's painting style, summarizing into three causes which I think are important: the promoting effect by the Nineteenth Century French Art Exhibition in Beijing, influence by Andrew Wyeth's creation to his lyric and realistic style and his study in Chinese traditional art(study in Kuan Fan's vast prospect and study in Zan Ni's pure and clear prospect). The forth chapter summarizes the thinking of Ai Xuan's painting, his love of the snowy plateau and his reflection on the real world. The last chapter portrays my personal experience in my creating and the influence I received after the study of Ai Xuan's oil painting of Tibetan subject.
