Self-portrait is the most direct medium for artists to examine themselves and express themselves in the context of western painting creation.In the period of the Republic of China,Pan Yuliang,a Chinese female artist,chose the oil painting in his important historical period of social and historical development.Based on his own unique life experience,he chose the Western painting type that is the advanced creative idea of the time and used it as his emotional transmission model..Throughout his life,he continued to use oriental perspectives to integrate Western art forms and draw a number of self-portraits.In view of this,studying these self-portrait creations as Pan Yuliang's most direct form of ideological awareness has clearly played an important role in fully understanding the artist's own and his artistic creation psychology,and even understanding Chinese women's paintings and women's thoughts in specific periods.Combining the literature review and image interpretation method,this article summarizes the self-portrait as the basic creative concept of the artist's psychological presentation,and briefly traces the development and evolution of the self-portrait of the artist.Based on this,Pan Yuliang's personal artistic experience was summarized and the origin of the self-portrait art creation was analyzed,and the corresponding relationship between them.Based on this,Pan Yuliang's 19 self-portraits are staged in stages to explain in detail the different painting styles presented in different stages of her creation due to her female identity and personal experience;and Pan Yuliang's analysis of her own gender and identity.Under the unique ideological conscioussness formed in the struggle of contradictions,the ever-changing knowledge of the self is revealed through self-portraits.In-depth analysis of Pan Yuliang's rich spiritual content contained in her self-portraits,reflecting on the profound changes in the status of women during the period of Republican female artists represented.
