The Mazu belief in the Meizhou Island,Putian,Fujian,is a typical representative of the folk beliefs of the people to God.After its emergence and promotion,the belief in Mazu is the spirit "Mazu",which is transmitted by the people of faith.The range from the north and south of China and Southeast Asia has formed the "Mazu belief circle".As a part of the whole society,people always feel confused and panic about the development and future of the individual.Under their own weakness,they will always hope to point out the unknown forces such as gods and other forces to find their own better development and better social progress.The Mazu belief of the overseas Chinese in Malaysia is a typical example.They rely on and disseminate Mazu belief in the process of their own survival and development,and give full play to the belief function and social integration function of Mazu belief.Therefore,the development and dissemination of the Mazu belief of overseas Chinese in Malaysia is closely related to the society of overseas Chinese,thus we can get a glimpse of the characteristics of Mazu belief.In this paper,the "characteristics of Mazu belief in Malaysia Penang overseas Chinese" as the theme,to Penang hall in Hainan Thean Hou Temple as an example,through the combination of field investigation and case analysis method in the detailed description of Penang overseas Chinese history,population composition,origin of Penang overseas Chinese and to clarify the characteristics of Mazu belief,and then try to Mazu summary of overseas Chinese belief.According to this,the meaning of the Mazu belief of the overseas Chinese in Penang is further excavated.
