This translation report is based on the translation of the first five chapters of Door to Door, written by the Pulitzer Prize winner Edward Humes. He applied a humorous writing style to describe the stories behind human's transportation world, triggering the public's deep thinking about contemporary traffic problems.According to Katharina Reiss' s text type theory, this book is a content-focused text, which intends to share some scientific knowledge of transportation world with the readers. The translator applies the Skopos theory to guide the whole translation so as to make the translation in line with the purpose of the writer and the book and also care about the readers' reading habits and feelings.Currently, there is no published Chinese version of the book. The translator analyzes some problems encountered in the process of translation and introduces some corresponding solutions to the problems. There are four parts in the report.Chapter One introduces the translation task, including a brief introduction to the source text and the writer,an analysis of the source text, and the requirements of the task.Chapter Two describes the whole translation process, including preparation,while-translating,and proofreading.Chapter Three is the main part.It contains a brief introduction to Hans Vermeer' Skopos theory, and discusses the translation problems encountered at word, sentence, and discourse level under the guidance of Skopos theory.Chapter Four consists of a summary, which highlights the key ideas of the report and also the translator's personal reflection on the unsolved problems in translation and some suggestions for future translation practice.
