In one form or another, like blood wounds or mental trauma, trauma always falls to someone in a totally unpredictable way, which interrupts the continuity of life and causes brokenness in life to different degrees. It is in this sense that we consider trauma as event, namely, trauma marks a positive disjunction to the integrity and uniformity of someone's original life, renders some imperceptible transmutation to happen in nature, and thus open one brand-new world of sense.Freud has actually found the aspect of event in trauma. He firmly believed that all contingent and incomprehensible symptoms of trauma were indeed decisive, and could be traced to their own specific motives and the causality of necessity. But reducing the contingency of traumatic events to necessity, which accords with the requirement of uniformity and identity,is bound to dispel the impact of the disjunction and rupture caused by trauma.Deleuze's theory of event overcomes this limitation of Freud's.He understands traumatic event from the viewpoint of contingency.Instead of limiting trauma to the one-dimensional and linear causality,he creates this infinitely differentiated quasi-causality in which events that differ in nature are able to communicate and resonate with one another, and all of them converge into the one and the same infinite and productive life.
