Time estimation is an important part of time psychology, and it has two kinds of main paradigms-prospective and retrospective estimation. In this research , on the basis of temporal self-appraisal theory suggested by Ross and Wilson, with questionnaire method and the method of evaluation on a line, and adopting retrospective estimation, we conducted 3 studies in order to investigate the characteristics of the time estimation of past events with 3 representative past events in college students . The research contained such factors as gender, events valence, temporal duration in near past , and self-views, as well as emotional intensity, self-relevancy, frequency of rehearsal, Combining with 3 studies, this research showed the results:1) Time estimation of past events had significant difference in temporal duration , but in the different temporal duration, had significant difference in negative valence event; and event valence X temporal duration interaction were significant difference, on the negative valence event , time estimation of long temporal duration was significant longer than time estimation of short temporal duration.2 ) Temporal duration X event valence interaction was significant difference. And in the different temporal duration, on the negative valence, time estimation of long temporal duration(e.g. three months ago) was significant longer than short temporal duration(e.g. one week ago). But in the same temporal duration, time estimation was not significant difference in event valence and self-view.3 ) Emotional intensity was a factor influenced time estimation of past events.4) In daily past events, time estimation of past events had significant difference in gender.5) In traditional festivals, time estimation of past events had no significant difference in gender.6) Memorial strength of past episodes predicted time estimation, but frequency of rehearsal and self-relevancy predicted time estimation in virtue of memorial strength.
