Liu Shaotang, who was Sun Li's disciple,is an eminent romantic local novelist. He has spent his entire life creating a series of local novels about the Grand Canal, which has vital significance to the inheritance of the Canal Culture. This thesis intends to proceed from the perspective of narration and base on the text of the novel to do deep analysis on the characterization, plot model, narrative pattern, and aesthetic style of local novels,in that we can dig up the local features and styles of his local novels in the later period while reveal his worldview that was implicit in his novels. This article consists of the preface, the main text and the conclusion. The preface briefly combed the development of Chinese local novels and introduced the basic information of the author. It also made a literature review on related research and demonstrated the innovation of itself.Chapter 1 discusses the characterization of Liu Shaotang's local novels.Liu Shaotang's novels in the later period show three features that includes stereotype of characters, the characters have no protagonist, and the characters are static. His novel focuses more on the characters than the plots, that embodies the psychological character view.Chapter 2 elaborates the plot model of his local novels.Liu Shaotang's later novels presented three narrative sequences in total, and these three plot modes have become three indispensable elements of his novels. The three sequences are“childhood narrative”,“rightist narrative” and “leaving–returning of love narrative”.Chapter 3 outlines the narrative methods of his local novels.Liu Shaotang's novels in the later period adopted multiple perspectives such as "omniscient narrative","restricted narrative" and "dual narrative",which add a deeper artistic charm to his novels. His organic control over the narrative distance of novel has created communication and integration between readers and subjects, and that also demonstrated his values and morals.Chapter 4 presents the aesthetic style of his local novels.Liu Shaotang'saesthetics of local literary creation experienced a change from "ode body" to "lyricism".In his novel,he adopted an invisible approach to the "darkness" events in the novels, simultaneously,he inherited the idyllic pastoral style of traditional rural novels, which makes his local novels generally present a lyric canal style of the canal pastoral style. The conclusion is a summary of the full text.Although Liu Shaotang's literature on the Grand Canal was considerable,he failed to become a prominent figure in the mainstream of local literature. The reasons for that Liu Shaotang's native literature has been becoming the transitional literature are the insular object of creation and the shallow consideration of human nature.
