The literature nationalization has existed in the developing of Chinese modernliterature, and has affected the improvement of Chinese modern literature. In theChinese modern literature, local literature becomes the most national characterizedliterature. It can describe a variety of sceneries from the Chinese countryside, depictthe unique character of national personality, and highlight the language style ofpopularization, in order to advocate and inherit the Chinese art, culture andethnics.This essay tries to study the work of Liu Shaotang, who devoted himself tolocal literature and gained his unique characteristics in Chinese modern literature, toget the expression of nationalize pursuit and its reason.There are five parts in this essay.The introduction mainly discussed the Liu’s novel creation, and stated theachievement of his novel research, showing the value and meaning of Liu’snationalization pursuit in novel creation.Chapter one stated the theory of literature nationalization pursuit. Firstly, inorder to show the pursuit of literature nationalization, which respects to the nativenational culture and absorbs the achievements from overseas, I listed the typicalliterature theory of Belinsky, Lu Xun, Mao Zedong. Secondly, I studied some opinionsfrom the theory of Liu’s pursuit on the literature nationalization to emphasize theinherence of Chinese style and show the village culture, while, his national languagestyle. Besides, he proposed another theory, which should be followed in the process ofwriting: Chinese style, national style, local features and local themes. All of thesefactors become specialties of Liu’s theory.Chapter two stated the exhibition of Liu’s literature nationalization pursuit inthree parts. In the first part, to show the different perspectives between country livesand national culture, I started studying the depiction of national lives and stressingthe natural environment, the content of life, the changes of society, and theimplication of the dialogue of drama、New Year picture、storytelling、folk custom andother folk culture on Liu’s work. In the second part, I used the typical characters fromhis novel to analysis the formation of personal characteristics between genders byusing the example from canal’s females, who are gentle and soft, and Yan Zhao’smales, who are fervent and brave. In the third part, I began with the use of nationalform, and systematically analyzed the Liu’s nationalization of the novel form, techniques, and language. According to the combination of the popularity and thelegendary, the study of writing structure, the technique of description, and thenationalization of language, we could know the way of Liu realized his nationalpursuit.Chapter three discussed the reason for Liu’s literature nationalization pursuit.There are three reasons: local culture, aesthetic consciousness of writer, and thetradition of national pursuit in the Chinese modern local literature.The conclusion mainly stated the gain and the loss of Liu’s nationalizationpursuit, the unique national feature and style of Liu’s novel and his great contributionto propagation of the traditional Chinese culture.
