This report is based on the author?s Chinese-English translation of BMCTD visitbeijing.com,an official tourism website aiming to boost Beijing tourism industry and spread traditional C hinese culture to the outside world. The author mainly deals with the C-E translation of dining section, which is featured by introduction to a variety of C hinese cuisine covering historical allusions, traditional cuisine naming methods, and Chinese-style cooking techniques. This section notably poses a great challenge for translation for the lack of cognitive frames in target reader?s mind set.Under the guidance of cognitive frame theory, the report tentatively provides solution to their translation of Chinese cuisines in an attempt to combat cognitive barriers.Taking into consideration such factors as functions of the dining section, media stance, text as context, target reader?s expectation, etc.,the author suggests three modes, namely intra-textual mode,extra-textual mode, and intra-textural plus extra-textual modes to construct cognitive frames for the target readership, proposes and evaluates corresponding translation approaches to specific cases in this project.
