With the deepening of China's opening up,more and more people are coming to China for sightseeing,business or study to have a close feel of Chinese culture and customs.As an indispensable part of traditional Chinese culture,Chinese cuisine has become an increasingly important factor in attracting foreign friends.However,most of the studies on Chinese cuisine are restrained to dish names.To better promote Chinese cuisine,it is a must to emphasize the translation of Chinese cuisine introduction,which includes ingredients,cooking styles,dish origins,stories behind and so on.This report is based on the selected Beijing's publicity materials,aiming to focus on Chinese cuisine introduction.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory,this report makes a research on textual characteristics of Chinese cuisine introduction and puts forward translation strategies of Chinese cuisine introduction based on the notion that translation strategies are determined by the target text and target readers.With these adopted theories,the translated text came out clearer and more direct,which can better fulfill the purpose of promoting traditional Chinese culture.This current report is composed of five parts.In the first part,task description,the author gives an introduction to the background and significance of the task.The features of the source texts are also discussed.The second part is process description,in which the author describes how the translation was prepared and carried out.The third part deals with the introduction of Skopos Theory and its guiding significance.The fourth part is textual analysis and case study,in which the author analyzes the problems of the source texts from the perspective of the Skopos Theory and gives some concrete examples to illustrate translation strategies.The last part,conclusions,the author summarizes some findings in the process of translation and lists several limitations of the translation report.It is hoped that this translation report could facilitate the research in the similar translation field to some extent.
