The expressive form of freehand brushwork is a traditional form of watercolor painting creation in Guangxi Province.Yang Taiyang,a painter of Guangxi,who is the outstanding representative of the early Chinese watercolor painter,has used Chinese ink painting language in watercolor creation.The works of him have indicated that the watercolor painting possess with strong Chinese national characteristics have stepped into a high artistic level.Many of his works have not only become the classics of Chinese watercolor nationalization exploration,but also created the impressionistic form of Guangxi watercolor painting.Until today,numerous watercolor artists in Guangxi,China,have been constantly gaining new nutrition in the expressive language.Therefore,the study of freehand performance is not only an important way to understand the Guangxi watercolor,but also has a very important practical significance for the future development of Guangxi watercolor painting.Based on the cultural concept and position in the national character of Chinese painting,this paper has made a systematic study from the perspective of freehand brushwork about watercolor paintings in Guangxi according to the history and development status of watercolor painting here.The paper is divided into five chapters,among which the expressive forms of the expressive style are thoroughly investigated and expounded in the background of the historical development and the characteristics and ideas of the painters about Chinese traditional painting,Chinese watercolor painting,Guangxi watercolor and so on.In the first chapter,the development of freehand brushwork in traditional Chinese painting has been roughly sorted out.Moreover,the concept and connotation of it have also been defined.As for the second chapter,after the analysis and comment on the performance characteristics of Chinese watercolor painting,the Chinese watercolor painter’s standpoint of freehand expression has been summed up.And the third chapter includes a comprehensive analysis of the expressive language,as well as the form characteristics of Guangxi watercolor painting and its creative achievements.In the fourth chapter,after summarizing the exploration value of Guangxi watercolor painter in freehand performance,the positive role and significance of Guangxi watercolor painting in the historical inheritance and artistic characteristics have been affirmed.Further,the freehand spirit of Chinese traditional painting has been pointed out,which came from many Guangxi painters’ aesthetic ideals and spiritual pursuits.In the fifth chapter,it explores how the younger generation of Guangxi painters can further develop their direction and possibility under the outstanding achievements of their predecessors.Finally,the relevance of watercolor freehand brushwork and its cultural concept have been summarized to reveal its essence.Through research,Guangxi watercolor painting presents a whole image with historical heritage and unique artistic temperament,which has certain academic value and practical significance.In this way,the outside world would have a better understanding of Guangxi watercolor painting.And the confidence of Guangxi’s young artists in their own artistic tradition can be established,which can promote artistic exploration further on this basis.Further,it can enrich and flourish the artistic appearance of Guangxi’s watercolor painting continuously.
