Study On How Woody Allen Inherits And Subverts The Hollywood Comedy Of The Sexes

Woody Allen,one of the greatest comedy directors in the American movie history,is honored and respected due to his huge volume of works and profound meanings,which have been held in the good grace of the critics and have made a prosperous box-office.Meanwhile,which have been discussed repeatedly were the opposition and symbiosis between Mr.Allen and Hollywood,as well as the theme of the comedy of the sexes in his films.Nowadays,owning to the factor of tremendous research on Mr.Allen's work from domestic and overseas,and numerous study regarding literature research,the room of the research on the relationship between Woody Allen and Hollywood comedies of the sexes still needs improvement.This article is integrated the academic achievement and is enriched the research on the characteristic of type film in Mr.Allen's work by making through inquiry that how Woody Allen inherits and subverts the Hollywood comedy of the sexes.Due to the reason that the countries outside the utopia of the Berlin,Venice and Cannes film festivals still follow the system that the producers hold the decision-making power,the box office of their art films is in a prolonged slump and the films share little distribution channels.Moreover,in China,the whole film industry is in the course of development,most of commercial films are formatted while other categories,such as art films and independent films,have little distribution channel.Based on these factors,it takes of great significance to research and insight the relationship between Woody Allen and Hollywood,and the secret on how Woody Allen realized win-win between art and commerce.This article is constructed horizontally by three dimensions,namely,the narrative,the language and the ideology.Moreover,it is employed three methods of researching,say,diachronic investigation,close reading and comparative study.Specifically,to watch film and read related literature carefully,to make a comparison between Woody Allen and Hollywood comedy of the sexes and to comb the context of evolution of the Hollywood gender comedy and Woody Allen's films in lengthways.The research contains three parts.First,the statement on the current research status,necessity and method,and explanation about the relevant concepts regarding.Second,the involvement of the study on how Woody Allen inherits the Hollywood comedy of the sexes and film language,how he makes a revolution in narrative and ideology,and what are the unique aesthetic characteristics in his film.Thirdly,the summary of the whole article.I draw such conclusions that Mr.Allen contribution brings the Hollywood comedy of the sexes into the period of postmodernism,the necessary inheritance is the reason why Woody Allen makes a commercial success,while,the revolution from out-dated comedy mechanism and ideology of the classical Hollywood makes his film unique.
