With the increasing development of the urban public transportation, the metro is playing a more and more significant role in people's daily life.It not only brings convenience to our modern life, but also acts as a“window”to show the modernization and internalization of the city to people from all over the world. Therefore, the art design of the metro space has received more and more attention. In China,Xi'an is the 11thcity to build the metro system, and the start of its construction is relatively late. However,in recently years,Xi'an is gradually entering the international stage. Thus, how to make better use of the metro space as a public art platform to promote the image of the city, display the cultural heritage of the city,as well as create a better metro space environment,is an issue worthy of study.Compared with Xi'an,Hong Kong,as a special administrative region of China, has totally different history development, and its Chinese and Western cultural system makes the city a high degree of internalization. As to the construction of metro,Hong Kong is earlier than Xi'an for almost 30 years, and its mature metro system and the public art design also reflect the high level of an international city. Therefore, this paper selected the metro public artworks in Xi'an and Hong Kong as the object of study.Through the research method of field investigation and literature reading, comparisons between the metro artworks of both cities have been made in aspects of theme selection, form, material selection and location,so that suggestions can be made to the future metro public art design in other cities of mainland China. The author hopes that through the research of this paper, the similarities and differences of the metro public art in Xi'an and Hong Kong can be found out,so as to summarize the part that worth learning from, and provide some useful references to the future art design of metros in other cities of China.
