Pilu temple is located in east of Shangjing village,Dubei Township,the northeast of Shijiazhuang,hebei province,which is the national first-class cultural relic protection unit.Pilu temple was built in Tang dynasty,and now there is only the Buddha temple(the front temple)and the pilu temple(the rear temple).Both of them are painted with murals,which is one of the well preserved and important mural in the Ming dynasty.The pilu temple is famous for its exquisite water-land murals of Ming dynasty.Water-land painting is a kind of painting of religious figures produced under the background of water-land rites.The water-land murals of the pilu temple have rich content,outstanding theme and superb line technique,while inheriting the creation mode,material and aesthetic value of Chinese traditional temple murals,the author also has a more unique artistic aesthetic characteristic,which is very important in the history of mural art in China.Although many experts and scholars have studied pilu temple's murals,there are few study on the aesthetic value and aesthetic idiosyncrasy of water-land murals in the Ming dynasty.This paper focuses on the analysis and research on the contents,composition,color,line and aesthetic characteristics of pilu temple's murals.Try hard to present the unique aesthetic value and creative style of pilu temple's murals completely and clearly.This paper mainly uses field investigate,literature reference and interpretation of mural images,puts content of the mural as the entry point,to explore the different aesthetic value of the murals between pilu temple and other temples.This paper introduced the basic situation of the pilu temple firstly,and analyzed the contents and plot of the murals.Secondly,through the comparative study of water-land murals of zhaohua temple and gucheng temple,the water-land murals images of them are combed,summarized and compared,from the aspects of painting language and artistic expression,the unique cultural thought and aesthetic value of the murals were presented.Then analyzed the unique aesthetic characteristics of the mural from the perspective of characters and composition.At last,analyzed the time context of the murals in the pilu temple,discussed the aesthetic culture of the times,and found out the new understanding of the aesthetic style of pilu temple's murals.It is not only helpful for improving my own creation and skills,but also for better research and protection on traditional temple murals with greater significance and value.
