| Since ancient times,females are in a weak position for a long time in the traditional patriarchal society.They are observed as object during artistic creation,and always excluded from the mainstream discourse power.The ingrained traditional gender concept is like a rugged prison,and it prevented women from being consciously involved in artistic creation.Under the influence of two western feminist thoughts,the female consciousness of western female artist had quietly awakened before the 1980 s.Some representative artists had consciously begun to get rid of traditional male aesthetic,and started to research on gender differences.Although Chinese female artists could not completely back away from "appreciating" women from the point of men’s view at this time,they had also realized the uniqueness of themselves.In the 1990 s,with the advent of modern commercial society,Chinese feminist art learnt the experience and characteristics from western contemporary female art,used diversified media approach,combined what they absorbed with their own experience and the current social and cultural reality in China,and finally created a colorful female art.They had gradually subverted the deep-rooted relationship of “observe” and “be observed” in the history of art like western,and given women who were always the main body of creation a status of object through long-term artistic practice.They constructed an independent female discourse system above that,and formed a diversified structure of Chinese contemporary art. |
