Study On Conceptual Metaphors In Xi Jinping On Governance

Since The Metaphors We Live by,which was coauthored by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson,was published in 1980 s,metaphor has been incorporated into the cognitive field.Lakoff believes that metaphor is not only a rhetoric device,but also a thinking method and a cognitive mechanism.Lakoff applies the theory of conceptual metaphor theory to the analysis of political discourse,and achieves remarkable success.In recent years,China scholars introduced this concept into the study of Chinese political discourse,and further proved the applicability and the explanatory power of Lakoff's conceptual metaphor theory.Xi Jinping on Governance is a representative political discourse work contemporarily in China,and this paper aims at establishing a conceptual metaphor analyzing system for Xi Jinping's political discourse after the discourse analysis of the book referring to Lakeoff's conceptual metaphor theory and on the basis of the existing research achievements.In this paper,the metaphor phenomena in Xi Jinping on Governance are more visual and more sensible by applying the combinative method of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis,which includes the source domain resonance value theory to obtain the resonance value of the different types of metaphor and the total numbers of the metaphor keywords,and by analyzing its operation mechanism combined with Chinese cultural characteristics.According to the statistical analysis,there are 17 types of conceptual metaphor in Xi Jinping on Governance,among which there are 5 types showing high resonance value: "organism","travel","war","family" and "tool".These 5 types of conceptual metaphor are analyzed in detail in the main part of this paper,and every conceptual metaphor's inner system is further divided into several small sorts,attempting to get deeper insight into their realizing forms and operation mechanisms.A systematic study on Xi Jinping on governance is conducted in this paper,which is a new supplement for the research on China political discourse in the new era,and exerts positive effects in intercultural communication and foreign Chinese teaching,and may play a role in other aspects such as disseminating China's voice and political image.
