This paper is a translation report of children's literature.Translation materials are selected from Word Nerd by a Canadian female writer Susin Nielsen. The novel consists of 30 chapters with around 70,000 words.the present writer selected more than 11,000 words from six chapters which collectively reflect the characteristics of Word Nerd and translated them guided by Reception Aesthetics. So far, there has been no Chinese version of this novel.According to Jauss' s Reception Aesthetics, translators must guarantee target readers' centered status by satisfying target readers' reading need, catering to target readers' horizon of expectations and broadening their horizon of expectations. Therefore, appropriate methods such as the use of four-character phrases, contraction and annotation are employed to meet this effect.Difficulties in translating Word Nerd include titles and subtitles as well as rhetorical devices.Besides, more attention must be paid to English idioms and Scrabble game. This report consists of six parts. The first part presents the task description, mainly introducing choice of source text,Susin Nielsen and her works as well as features of Word Nerd. The second part goes to the task process, including pre-translation preparation, translation process and post-translation proofreading. The third part discusses literature review. The fourth part elaborates the theoretical basis;the fifth part, the core part of the project, comes case analysis, mainly analyzing the difficulties in translation process from three aspects——satisfying target readers' reading need, catering to readers' horizon of expectations and broadening their horizon of expectations. The last part is summary and conclusion. The present writer hopes that Reception Aesthetics will be better applied to the future translation practice and this report can improve his translation ability and literary appreciation.
