Reading is the main part of English teaching and learning in senior high schools.And pre-reading activity is the first step of teaching reading.However,some teachers may ignore the importance of pre-reading activities,and even ignore the penetration of background knowledge in pre-reading activities.Therefore,this may cause students' misunderstandings when reading articles.As is known,the effective pre-reading activity not only can motivate students' enthusiasm for learning and stimulate their interest in learning.By the way,it motivates students and activates their prior knowledge.It also strengthens the ability of self-learning and cooperates with people.It's good for classroom teaching.Consequently,the author believes that if students have rich background knowledge before pre-reading activities which can help them understand the contents of reading materials effectively.This thesis is based on the background knowledge penetration theory.We can find the insufficiency of background knowledge in pre-reading activities.The experiment is based on practice teaching of reading.Schema theory provides theoretical support for this study.According to experimental studies,questionnaires,and teachers' interview,then I analyze and discuss the collected data.105 students of two classes participated in the experiment and also interview some English teachers of senior one.They are from Harbin Normal University High School.Through the study the author has the following findings:(1)In the classroom,we should make full use of reading materials in pre-reading activities and supplement relevant background knowledge.In this way,background learning and language learning complement each other and optimize the effectiveness of learning reading.(2)Outside the classroom,we should select reading materials reasonably and accumulate them.We should also pay attention to the guidance of teachers.Moreover,realizing the positive effects of background knowledge in pre-reading activities,and cultivate students' self-learning ability.Based on the above research,the author finds that the content of background knowledge is very rich.Therefore,it is a complex and long-lasting process to infiltrate it into English reading learning and pre-reading activities.The background knowledge penetration strategy plays an active role in pre-reading activities to help students improve their reading ability.
