Li Peifu's "The Gate of the Sheep"(1999)is a contemporary novel with profound cultural reflection. The book is condensed with deep cultural connotations and vivid contemporary historical imprints, with a stunning sense of reality and a heavy dignity. The most striking thing is the "Sacred King" Hu Tiancheng, who not only miraculously makes an occluded and barren plain village rich, but also "domesticizes" the villagers with a cold will and hard means inside village Hujiabao. In the case of benevolence and justice,he runs a huge and complex "people's field".The success of Hu Tiancheng seems to conform to the trend of economic development in the times, but in essence it highlights the ideal of the traditional Confucian "inner talents of the saint and outer implement of the king".He became an artistic example of traditional politicians who grew up from Chinese traditional culture. The introduction part of the paper explains the relevant background of "The Gate of the Sheep",which defines the concept of "The Inner talents of the Saint and outer implement of the King",and focuses on the research status of "The Gate of the Sheep" in recent years,And according to the writing content of this article,it pointed out the current gains and losses in the research and the focus of this article. The main body of the paper is divided into three parts:The first chapter mainly discusses the deep connection between "The Gate of the Sheep" and "root-seeking literature" in dealing with the traditional culture's emotional attitude and value orientation.By analyzing Li Peifu's overall creation, his "root-seeking" consciousness is finally revealed in "The Gate of the Sheep",which unearths the "inner talents of the saint and outer implement of the king" as the core of Confucian culture and its political philosophy. On the basis of textual reading, the second chapter focuses on the analysis of the actual expression of the "inner talents of the saint and outer implement of the king".Through the castration and cutting of the arduous human sexual desire,Hu Tiancheng became a model of moral perfection, and thus gained the supreme authority. From this,Hu Tiancheng tried his best to discipline the body and soul of the Hujiabao people, and finally established a highly centralized "feudal kingdom",which exposes the intrinsic essence of Confucian political culture. The third chapter focuses on the criticism of the "inner talents of the saint and outer implement of the king".In terms of the value scale measured by modernity,no matter in the objective social environment or in the level of human modernization, the Confucian model of "inner and external kings" has formed a comprehensive embarrassment and repression. Therefore, there has a great significance on its examination and criticism.
