Discourse cohesion is one of the important means of discourse analysis.As a feature of discourse,lexical cohesion theory plays an important role in the overall semantic coherence and reading comprehension of discourse.It not only helps students to make inferences and predictions during the reading process,but also helps students to guess the purpose of the author's writing and understand the purpose of the article.At present the lexical cohesion theory has been applied to college English vocabulary teaching by the scholars who come from home and abroad for many times,while the teaching mode based on lexical cohesion in English reading teaching in senior high school is relatively insufficient,and it is still in the initial stage,above all it lacks empirical research.Therefore,this study tries to apply the cohesion theory put forward by Halliday and Hasan to senior high school English reading teaching to construct a new English reading teaching mode based on lexical cohesion theory.The study consisits of two research questions: 1.What is the relationship between the teaching mode based on lexical cohesion and students' English reading scores ? 2.What is the impact of the teaching mode based on lexical cohesion on students' English reading interest ?In this experiment,there are 110 students who come from two classes in senior high school in Panjin dawa district are selected as the study subjects.Because the level of English scores in both classes are equal,Class 29 is selected as the experimental class at random,while Class 22 is chosen for the controlled class.The experiment lasts for four months.In the experiment,the experimental class adopts the new English reading teaching mode based on the lexical cohesion,while the controlled class adpots the traditional English reading teaching mode.In order to verify the feasibility of this mode,students in two classes are given questionnaires about lexical cohesion and English reading test before the experiment.After the experiment,there are the post-questionnaire,post-test and interview.Finally,the author will use SPSS software to analyze the experimental data and draw a conclusion.The experimental results show that the reading teaching mode based on the lexical cohesion is helpful to improve students' English reading scores,it is good to improve students' English reading interest.The relationship between them is positively correlated,and it is suitable for English teaching.At the same time,lexical cohesion can be seen as a supplement of traditional teaching mode.
