The Research On The Faith Of Huoshan Mountain

Jiuzhou,a name for ancient China,stands its dominating hill.There is Huoshan Mountain in Shanxi province.It is the dominance of other mountains for a long time even though great changes have happened.Huoshan Mountain,Zhongzhen of five towns,is a noted mountain out of ten in China and is famous for its inclusion in Zhongzhen and the worship of emperors in the past dynasties.The god of Huoshan Mountain is a widely circulated deity in the official and folk beliefs.The author reviews the historical materials of local chronicles and inscriptions,as well as the investigation data of predecessors.This paper gives a comprehensive explanation of the emergence and evolution of the Huoshan belief in Zhongzhen,as well as the influence of the belief mode and function,and provides in-depth analysis the status of the Huoshan belief in Zhongzhen.As the head of the five towns,Huoshan Mountain has been respected since the ancient times of Yao,Shun and Yu.With the development of history,the belief and worship of Huoshan have undergone five periods of change.That is,Taiyue Mountain belief in ancient times,Huotai Mountain belief in Jiuzhou Town period(Shang and Zhou Dynasties),Huoshan belief in four-town time(Western Zhou to the Sui Dynasty),Huoshan belief in transition period(Tang and Song Dynasties),and Huoshan belief in five-town period(Jin to Qing Dynasties).With the pass of time,the faith of Huoshan in Zhongzhen evolved.The worship of Huoshan God in the past dynasties bestowed Huoshan in Zhongzhen distinct political characteristics.The belief in Huoshan in Zhongzhen gradually evolved into two forms: official belief and folk belief.The politicization of Huoshan belief in Zhongzhen is mainly reflected in the canonization of Huoshan in each dynasty and the official sacrificial activities(conventional and unconventional sacrifices)in Huoshan or Zhongzhen.The unconventional sacrifice is the main part of the sacrificial activities.It can be divided into six categories for different reasons: emperor's accession to the throne,war and patrol,natural disasters,the birthday of the royal family and the royal burial.The localization of Huoshan belief in Zhongzhen mainly lies in the participation of folk forces,the folklore on the legend of Huoshan God in Zhongzhen and the restoration of the temple in Zhongzhen.Based on the analysis of two types of belief,the author understands the function of Huoshan belief in Zhongzhen at that time and its influence on later generations.
