In recent times, consciousness research has become a big concern of scientists.Especially with the progress of neuroscience, the use of neurobiology method to research consciousness has become mainstream. This has also pushed the study of consciousness into a new phase, and various scientific theories of consciousness appear.Christof Koch's thoughts on consciousness is one of them.He founded the science of consciousness with other contemporary researchers. His research focuses on the relationship between mind and brain, and the brain mechanism of consciousness. This thesis generalizes and studies Koch's thoughts on consciousness. The evaluation system comes from the prevailing consciousness evaluation system. This thesis divides Koch's thoughts on consciousness into four dimensions:understanding consciousness, methodology of consciousness, mechanism of consciousness, and metaphysics of consciousness, and these four dimensions serve as a comprehensive and scientific reference frame for judging and evaluating Koch's ideological ideal. This thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter mainly discusses the background of the scientific research consciousness, introduce Koch,Koch's important work of consciousness research,Koch's two books of consciousness, the four evaluation dimensions judge Koch's thoughts on consciousness. The second chapter mainly discusses Koch's understanding of consciousness.Koch defined consciousness in four aspects, including commonsense definition, behavioral definition, neuronal definition, philosophy definition.Koch believe that only the four aspects as a whole that we can have a complete understanding of consciousness. In addition, this chapter also discusses Koch's three-points understanding of the function of consciousness. The third chapter mainly discusses the theoretical framework of Koch's consciousness research. The theoretical framework is based on ten working assumptions, and under the guidance of this theoretical framework,Koch is committed to finding the neuronal correlates of consciousness in the brain. And this chapter also compares the theoretical framework with the "dynamic core" hypothesis which proposed by Gerald Edelman and Giulio Tononi.Because there are many similarities between the two sides' understanding of consciousness. The fourth chapter mainly discusses the mechanism of Koch's consciousness research, which is divided into two parts.firstly, consciousness emerging out of complex nervous networks.consciousness is an emergent property of the brain.Secondly, consciousness is immanent in complexity.Koch believes that consciousness is the integrated information produced by the causal interaction within the system. The fifth chapter mainly discusses the metaphysical thought of the Koch's thoughts on consciousness, namely, the romantic reductionism.and the theory of panpsychism. The sixth chapter Echo mentioned above, using the evaluation framework to summarize and evaluate Koch's thoughts on consciousness. This thesis argues that Koch's scientific research on consciousness provides a good framework for our understanding of consciousness, and Koch's thoughts on consciousness is comprehensive and scientific.I also hope this thesis can draw the reader's attention to Koch's thoughts on consciousness, and attach importance to the research of consciousness science.
