In the course of pursing goals, people do not always take goal-directed actions to promote the goal.Yet,under some cases, individuals usually take steps that are inconsistent with long-term goal or even deviate from that, which may led to total failure. Many factors will affect the realization of the goal, and there are many wavs to promote our goals more brilight. This article focuses on the impact of splitting long-term goals into multiple equal short-term goals can significantly increase the individual’s goal-directed tendency. The first experiment and the second respectively reveal that splitting long-term goals into multiple equal short-term goals can significantly increase the individual’s goal-directed utility and reduce individual’s goal-deviated action from different experimental scenarios, how goal-deviated tendency changes with the increase of the number of the short-term goals. To solve these problems, experiments were performed to check the psychological mechanism of decision making for goal-directed and goal-deviated actions, and the dynamic change process of goal-deviating tendency from the perceived goal attainability and the Self-efficacy aspects.Through three experiments, the study reached the following conclusions:(1)Splitting long-term goals into multiple short-term goals can significantly reduce goal-deviated actions(2)The relationship between the number of short-term goals and goal-deviated action is a U-shape.(3)Perceived goal attainability mediate the impact of short-term goals on goal-deviated actions.(3)Self-efficacy regulates the impact of perceived goal achievability on that. This study enriches the relevant theories on goal setting,And.Possible psychological mechanisms of this phenomenon have been revealed that perceived goal attainability was proposed to provide a new perspective for accounting for preference of goal-directed and goal-deviated steps, which have important theoretical implications for the future. In addition, this thesis designs and verifies the effectiveness of setting short-term goals as effective behavioral interventions to reduce the tendency of goal-deviating preferences, which has practical significance.
