A Study On Creative Treason In The Translation Of When We Were Orphans

This thesis is a study mainly on the creative treason in Chen Xiaowei's translation of When We Were Orphans written by Kazuo Ishiguro.From the perspective of the medio-translatology in comparative literature field,the author analyses the characteristics of creative treason in depth,explores the influence of creative subjects on the characteristics of creative treason in When We Were Orphans,and probes the possibility and necessity of creative treason in the process of literary translation.Based on the theory of creative treason in comparative literature and world literature,the first chapter of this thesis explores the significance of the translator as an independent literary creation subject,by taking cases of the target text from the following three aspects: the translator's personalized translation,mis-translation and information supplement of characters' conversation in the source text.The second chapter,taking the translation of When We Were Orphans as a case study,discusses and digs out the creative treason influencing the translation version of When We Were Orphans in terms of linguistics,target language readers and target surroundings from the perspective of the composition of literary relations.Besides,the author further analyses the scientificalness and necessity of exerting creative treason in the process of literary translation,and constructs the special value of this translation as an independent literary text in literature.The third chapter,according to Chen Xiaowei's translation concept,discusses the similarities between her translation concept and the creative treason theory,and illustrates the importance of the translator's subject function that the translator attached to during the translation process of When We Were Orphans,as well as the connection between the translator's emphasis on the instruction of readers and creative treason of the target text.
