Zhang Mingzhi,the King Of Hubei Drum:Research On Performers Of Story-Telling And Singing From A Ethnomusicology Perspective

The Hubei Drum is a drumming art and one of the four major types of folk music in Hubei.In June 2008,the Hubei Drum was included in the second group of national intangible cultural heritages.The Hubei Drum does not only offer varied vocal performances,but also present humorous and interesting stories.It has won the hearts of the Hubei people and is thus widely popular in the Hubei Province.As a national inheritor of the Hubei Drum,Zhang Mingzhi has made an indelible contribution to the development and improvement of this art form.Through field investigation and deskwork,this thesis first studies Zhang Mingzhi,a representative artist of the Hubei Drum;and then discusses the problems in the development and inheritance of the Hubei Drum.This research includes the analysis of Zhang Mingzhi's artistic characteristics,Zhang Mingzhi's artistic creation and contribution,as well as Zhang Mingzhi's important role in the education and inheritance of the Hubei Drum.The thesis enriches the theories of ethnomusicology,the theories of traditional intangible cultural inheritance as well as the theories of biography writing.
