"The Lost People Are Not Lost":A Study Of The Dispirited Culture In Cyberspace From The Perspective Of Dramaturgical Theroy

Dispirited culture is a kind of subculture pervading among youth during the transition period of Chinese society.Whether the popular “Ge You Lying” or the “Universal” of “Buddha”,young people,gradually,become the epitome of culture by unique ways,making themselves a significant strength in China.The new media technology sets up a stage and virtual network provides symbolic props for the youth show.Presented through decadent and negative ways,it comforts young generations faced with structural problems in society.From the perspective of Goffman's Dramaturgical theory,this paper makes a research on the “Dispirited Culture” in cyberspace through comprehensive methods including text analysis and Internet field as well as critical discourse analysis based on the Birmingham school's “style” theory.Through the analysis of youth subculture,this paper,on the basis of the Dramaturgical theory,tries to probe into the Dispirited Culture with high performance from essence.Thanks to the changes of stage,the “Dispirited Culture” achieves its performing and emotional presentation.Through the bricolage,parody and homology of the network text,the “Dispirited Culture”,by means of discourse's style construction,makes success in the self-identification and group identification.As young people are familiar with the performance rules of this online theater,the “dismay” element in the symbol is totally subtle and true.The “Dispirited Culture” performance fully embodies the “self-idealization” effect of youth.The study finds that,the “Dispirited Culture” performance in cyberspace,virtually,is a kind of contradiction between external frustration and internal optimism.Besides,it is in possession of its autonomy and positive value differing from mainstream culture.Just as the saying goes,“The mourners are not lost”,which to some extent,is a real interpretation.Futhermore,according to this paper,while past studies believe the invisible “incorporation” power in the business culture is too strong.However,the “Escape from Business” strategy that young subcultures has no choice but to carry out because of its autonomy preservation,seems to be inapplicable in current cultural networks.
