Interpreting seems to be an activity that only requires listening ability and output. However,to be a qualified interpreter,it takes a lot more than listening ability and basic language ability.Listening comprehension and interpretation output is influenced by many factors, among which extra-linguistic knowledge is one of the important factors. It directly affects listening comprehension and thus affects output. The richness of extra-linguistic knowledge not only affects the accuracy and completeness of interpretation, but also has a greater impact on the confidence and fluency of the interpreter. The thesis analyzes an English-Chinese consecutive interpreting task the author preformed during a mock interview with Peter Thiel in the 481 st session of the Economic Club of New York, discusses the positive and negative effects of the presence or absence of extra-linguistic knowledge on listening comprehension and output of interpretation, and proposes coping strategies for reference based on the author's learning and practical experience.
