As the first step of interpretation, listening comprehension is the key to language input and output. However,in practice, interpreters may face myriads of listening comprehension barriers, such as different accents, fast speed of speaking, obscure statements, and equipment failure, which makes listening comprehension the most error-prone step. When the writer did the consecutive interpretation for a mock symposium, many omissions, mistakes and pauses occurred because of comprehension difficulties. Thus, revolving around listening comprehension barriers, this paper aims to find out relative coping strategies. In the first part of this paper, the definition and importance of listening comprehension are presented. Then, this paper will analyze mistakes that the writer made during mock symposium.Daniel Gile,a famous expert on interpretation, put forward a model of comprehension: Comprehension = Knowledge of the Language +Extra-linguistic Knowledge + Analysis.Based on Gile's model, this paper will propose strategies that can be used before and during the interpretation process. This paper hopes to provide reference for other interpreters.
