Writing is one of the basic language skills,which can reflect the overall language abilities of the students.However,some problems still remain in English writing teaching in junior high schools.From the perspective of teachers,the English writing problems are due to the insufficient teaching time and traditional teaching concept,so that the writing teaching cannot be fully carried out and the problems cannot be solved in time.From the perspective of students,though they may have a large vocabulary,they are unable to use the words properly.Problems such as grammar mistakes,Chinglish,improper cohesion and coherence,still exist.Writing is a process from language input to output.There will be difficulties in this process with obstacles.Recent research shows that lexical chunks,as fixed and semi-fixed structures,can be known and remembered by students.Therefore,my study attempts to explore whether reciting lexical chunks can improve the students’ writing.The role of recitation in fundamental English teaching is important.It can help improve the students’ storage of lexical chunks.Those chunks can be collected and applied to students’ English writing.Therefore,it is fluent,accurate,and logical in students’ writing,which can ease their anxiety in writing,and enhance their scores and writing abilities.The purpose of my study is to explore the effective use of chunk recitation in English writing teaching in junior high schools.In this case,the author puts up two research questions:1)In which aspects can chunk recitation affect the students’ writing scores?2)Can the lexical chunk recitation improve the middle school students’ writing scores?To solve the above questions an experiment was made.The lexical chunks in the experiment mainly came from the textbooks,supplemented by chunks from other reading materials.The students were encouraged to find chunks by themselves and recite them,while the teacher conducted various teaching activities to help students consolidate the chunks.Eventually,the students could build up their own storage of lexical chunks.In addition,surveys,interviews and writing tests were carried out.The data before and after the experiment showed us that the scores of the experimental class were much higher than those before the experiment.The students got a new understanding of the combination of chunk recitation and writing.They used much more chunks than before and achieved remarkable improvement in writing.More sentence structures were used and smoother layout was applied.The analyses of the surveys and interviews all showed that the students’ confidence and interest were significantly enhanced.Therefore,we can draw such a conclusion that chunk recitation is effective in junior high school English writing teaching and can enhance students’ writing abilities and their performance.
