| Teaching materials are the medium for teaching.They play an important role in teaching.Teaching materials are the main tools of teachers’ teaching and the main source of systematic knowledge for students.The quality of materials has the direct influence on teaching quality.Though the importance of teaching materials has been realized,the cohesion of teaching materials between different stages of education has been ignored.There are many studies on the transition of English teaching between primary and junior high school.Some scholars thinks the main reason why transition problems of teaching appear is that there are different teaching key points in primary and middle school.Others put forward that the factor of primary and middle schools having their own system and wanting to realize the systematic teaching is the main reason.In a word,most of researches emphasized the way with a macroscopic view to deal with problems.They thought that these problems should be solved from the aspects of teachers,students and teaching methods.However,special studies on the cohesion of teaching materials are few.To learn about the present situation of cohesion of teaching materials,based on the constructivism learning theory and Bruner’s cognition-discovery theory,this thesis adopted the way of questionnaire for 25 English teachers and 200 students inmiddle school and 25 teachers in primary school to gather information for attitudes of teachers and students on existing materials.Except the questionnaire,the author have interviews for 5 teachers and 5 students.And the instruction dairy can be the supplement.The questions of this research are:1.What are students’ views on existing English teaching materials?2.What are teachers’ views on existing English teaching materials?3.What is the present situation of the cohesion of teaching materials?4.What are the problems caused by the failed cohesion of teaching materials in teaching?From the analyses,the findings of the survey can be concluded as follows:Firstly,the failure of cohesion of teaching materials leads to the simple repetition of learning contents,which made students lose their interest in learning English.Secondly,the failure of cohesion of teaching materials increases the teaching works for teachers.It takes teachers much time to promote the learning interest of students.Thirdly,there are prominent problems of cohesion of materials.The compilation teams of teaching materials and the key points are different between primary and middle school.There are many repetitive contents in vocabulary and grammar teaching,and they ignore the phonetic teaching.There are no communication between primary and middle school,and the problem of omissive contents can not be solved.Finally,the failed cohesion of materials leads to waste lot of resources.And it has a bad influence on teaching,which makes many students turn to teaching institution and increase the learning burden for students.Based on the findings of the survey,the author thinks that it is necessary to pay attention to the cohesion of materials.The implementation of developing school-based curriculum which combines the local situation is a real way to improve teaching.Using teaching materials creatively is necessary. |
