Gauguin,Picasso,Matisse,involved in those celebrated artist’s aura,Marc Chagall who occupies an very important position in the history of the modern painting does not seem to get enough attention in our country,a strong flavor of fantasy and mysterious narrative in his picture not only has a profound spiritual and cultural connotation,but also reflects the painter’s clear emotional personality.In Chagall’s long artistic career,he almost has been painting the same things,the images of animals,the violinist,lovers,acrobats,floating people and so on constitute Chagall’s unique art domain.Why do these images appear so frequently in Chagall’s pictures?What does Chagall want to convey to us through these images?Chagall’s floating people in the air,upside down or fleeting head,green face etc let us see all the possibilities of liberty in the painting,just like a dream triggered by the subconsciousness.Confused time,separated space,coexisted theme,the pure images...these features of subconsciousness are so evident in Chagall’s paintings.Therefore,this article takes the theory of Freud’s interpretation of dreams and the subconsciousness theory as its basis,according to the characteristics of fantasy in his paintings,do as much as possible to collect paintings,text books and related research papers of Chagall,hoping to achieve a new interpretation of Chagall,reveal his expression forms of the subconsciousness world,analysis the association between the personal style of painting language and the artist’s self image,thus further to grasp Chagall’s hidden mental and emotional world,understand the relations between the subconsciousness and artistic creations,between the reality of human’s mental world and the reality of the real world.
