A Contrastive Study Of Quantitative Expressions In Chinese And Korean

Both Chinese and Korean belong to different language family,and there are many differences in word order and grammar.However,they belong to Cla ssifier language at the same time.Because the numeral classifiers and plur al markers are in mutual exclusion relationship in the traditional view,therefore,plural marker can not appear in language which has the numeral c lassifiers.Rather,both Chinese and Korean are exceptional,not only numer al classifier exists,but also the form that represents plural meaning appe ars such as 'men' and 'deul'.However,there are still many differences be tween them and this phenomenon which is similar in one aspect,but it is di fferent in other aspects,and also confuses Korean students and makes error s easily in learning Chinese.This paper conducts comparative analysis of quantitative expression,plural expression,and the constituents part of them,which are numeral,numeral classifier,plural marker 'men','deul',and discusses the similarities and differences between Chinese and Korean.This study mainly includes the following four parts.In chapter one,it introduces the definition and classification of numera 1 system and quantifier system in Chinese and Korean,and research object a nd significance.In chapter two,we conducted a contrastive study of quantitative phrases'Q=N','N-Q-CI','Q-N','Q-Cl-N' and the overlapping formation 'one C1 one C1' and 'one C1C1' which represented in both language and then we disc ussed usage of the non-quantitative numerals 'one' in Chinese and Korean.In chapter three,we also adopted category of quantification from Corbett(2005):associateives plural,distributives plural and collectives plural,based on collocation case of the plural marker 'men' in Chinese and 'deul 'in Korean,contrasted between the Chinese 'men ' and the Korean 'deul'.In chapter four,it concludes research results which handled in previous chapters,and illustrates achievements in this study.
